Aaron Moore is a furniture designer-maker based in Cornwall, who has made a craft of developing sustainable furniture designs and joinery techniques at his workshop near Truro. The Eden Project loved one of his chair designs, made from recycled plastic, and wanted to use it in their latest restaurant for visitors. But they needed help combining Aaron’s design with recycled plastic taken from their public restaurants and cafés which could be reused in the new restaurant chairs.

Christopher Pett of Makers managed the product development and production of 50 unique chairs, made from recycled Eden Project plastic cups and situated in the Core Building restaurant since 2006. This was one of the first product development projects which Makers staff have undertaken and it set the scene for many projects to come: a design, a client but no pre-existing path to get from concept to delivery.

Working with Aaron Moore, plastics expert Colin Williamson and the Eden Project facilities management team was a real pleasure. Hundreds of thousands of Eden Project visitors chairs have used the chairs and some have been inspired by the simple message of closed-loop recycling embodied in the custom Re-Form chairs.
